Business Development Associate
A statement from Nick:
Flag & Wire is a small but growing company with a very large vision. We’re actively making decisions today that will impact our tomorrow. We have some significant goals and the time has come to look for more help in a few areas. One of those areas is business development, and we think it’s an exciting opportunity for someone. We’re not looking for a salesperson strictly, though that’s certainly part of the job. We’re looking for an energetic person to join our team and contribute to policies and procedures that will impact this company and the people who we do business with for many years to come. We’re not necessarily looking for the most classically qualified—My wife and I were hardly qualified to start this business when we did. We’re more excited to bring someone onto the team who exhibits the following qualities and are excited about being a part of Flag & Wire.
Purpose of the position and primary roles:
- To facilitate the appropriate growth of a small wholesale based roasting company in McMinnville.
- To expand the brand’s regional reach and develop a saturation metric—that is, when do we know we’ve “reached” an area.
- To develop (within the F&W leadership community), reasonable and reachable strategic goals and to take the lead in implementing them companywide.
- Work with prospective, new and established wholesale clients to identify and address their unmet needs.
- Establish long-term customer-relationship goals.
- Assess founder’s wacky new ideas with clarity and respect, and help to assess their relevance to the company’s long-term strategic goals
- Interact with all pieces of Flag & Wire, its customers, and its vendors.
A person in this position will:
- Be totally friendly, outwardly postured and able to bring that attitude to the job consistently.
- Be familiar with our brand.
- Be punctual and respectful of others’ time (customers as well as fellow staff).
- Be fully honest and trustworthy in regards to handling cash.
- Be a self-starting individual able to manage time with efficiency and integrity.
- Have some experience in sales, marketing or some other area(s) relatable to this position.
- Have a valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance (and not be a terrible driver).
- Not just tolerate but enjoy working in this fun & sometimes chaotic atmosphere.

Barista
A statement from Nick:
When I hire a barista I’m not really looking for that person to have had a lot of experience with another company—we can train that and they can develop it. We’re looking for someone who wants to work and grow with Flag & Wire. Every day is something different, new questions ideas and challenges.
Purpose of the position:
- To uphold and bolster our position as the standard of quality in the areas we serve.
- To quickly and efficiently prepare espresso based and brewed coffee beverages for customers.
Primary Job responsibilities:
- Keep the bar clean and organized.
- Be responsible for your own bar practices with an eye on precision and efficiency.
- Keep track of beverage orders.
- Be ready to describe what you’re doing to customers and what they should expect from what you’re making them.
A person in this position will be:
- Totally friendly, outwardly postured, and able to bring that attitude to work consistently.
- Familiar with our brand.
- Punctual and respectful of others’ time, (customers as well as fellow staff).
- Fully honest and trustworthy in regards to handling cash.
- Open to learning more about our company and our products.
- Interested in customer service as a profession.
- Able to handle very busy moments and stay busy maintaining the bar during slow ones.
Front End Assistant
Purpose of the position:
To serve our customers by making people feel welcome and heard, and to relieve the barista whenever possible in order to expedite and improve service.
Primary Job responsibilities:
- Receiving orders and payments and, in the case of cash, counting back change to customers.
- Keeping an overall watch of the seating area—quickly wiping tables and anticipating customers desires.
- Handling pastries.
- Keeping accurate track of which beverages go to whom and in which order.
- Describing products accurately.
- Developing relationships between our customers and our brand.
- Taking drinks to customers.
- Informing customers about other goods or services that they might like.
- Making recommendations regarding other goods or services, (lunch, wine bars, roller-derby, etc.)
